Shortly after the IPL 2026 final, 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi approached Virat Kohli while folding his hands in a reverent namaskar.

A brief conversation and a warm embrace captured the symbolic passing of the baton between Indian cricket’s present and future. Cameras recorded the moment shortly after the Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated the Gujarat Titans by five wickets at Narendra Modi Stadium to win the IPL 2026 title.

Kohli took an opportunity to thank the teenager who had lit up the competition with his brave batting as celebrations broke out all around him. The video now circulating widely online shows Sooryavanshi greeting Kohli with folded hands before embracing him. After that, Kohli put his arm over Vaibhav’s shoulder, and they talked for a few minutes.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi emerges as India’s next big cricket star

No one is certain exactly what was said. However, the encounter was just another turning point in an incredible journey for Sooryavanshi, who has spent the season winning praise from some of cricket’s greatest stars.

With 776 runs at the end of the 2026 Indian Premier League, the youngster emerged as one of the most promising young players in Indian cricket. Sachin Tendulkar, who recently supported him as a potential Test cricket player and praised his hitting approach, is among the many cricket players who have praised his performances.

Sooryavanshi’s Dream IPL journey

Kohli had already recognized the young player’s ability. Following Sooryavanshi’s spectacular attack on RCB’s bowlers in Guwahati earlier in the season, Kohli had offered the teenager an autograph and autographed his cap.

This meeting, however, seemed different. There was no match left to play and no scorecards to debate. On a night that neither of them will likely forget, it was just a young cricket player standing in front of one of his heroes, getting a few priceless seconds of attention. The youngster’s record-breaking performance has strengthened belief in Indian cricket’s next generation of batting superstars, with age firmly on his side.
