Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter Tim David was fined 50% of his match fee and accumulated two Demerit Points for breaching Level 1 of the IPL Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials, the IPL confirmed via a statement on their website.

David’s offence occurred during the 10th over of the first innings. David is said to have thrown an ice bag aggressively at umpire Nitin Menon on the fall of a wicket. The IPL statement read:

David was found to have breached Article 2.9 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which relates to “throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment such as a water bottle) at or near a Player, Team Official, Umpire, Match Referee or any other third person in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during a Match.”

One-game suspension for Tim David

The statement also confirmed that Tim David admitted to the offence and accepted match referee Javagal Srinath’s sanctions.

This was David’s third Level 1 offence of the recently concluded IPL season. The Australian committed his first offence in Match 20 (one demerit point) and his second Match 54 (two demerit points).

He has now accumulated five demerit points over the course of IPL 2026. As a result, he will be suspended for RCB’s first game of the season, or the first game of his new franchise’s season, should he play for a different team in 2027.

David played a key role in RCB’s title-winning season

Tim David was immense in RCB’s title charge this year. Batting mostly in the death, David scored 305 runs in 15 innings. He scored those runs at an average of 33.9 and a strike rate of 188.3.

That run included a crucial cameo (24 off 17) in the final after RCB suffered a mini-collapse during the chase. He put on a 41-run partnership alongside Virat Kohli to put Bengaluru within touching distance of their second title in two years.

However, his most memorable knock this term probably came in only their second match of the season. David hit three fours and eight sixes in an unbeaten 25-ball 70 against the Chennai Super Kings. His relentless hitting alongside some attack from captain Rajat Patidar saw RCB score 99 runs in their last six overs that day.
