- Archer starred with bat ball and in the field against Mumbai Indians
- Rajasthan Royals fast bowler smashed 32 off 15 balls at Wankhede
- Jofra Archer’s all-round brilliance could transform RR’s playoff hopes
Jofra Archer has long been viewed as one of T20 cricket’s most destructive fast bowlers. This IPL season though the Rajasthan Royals star is beginning to look something even more dangerous.
At the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday Archer produced one of the most complete performances of his T20 career against Mumbai Indians. He smashed a rapid 32 from just 15 balls claimed three wickets and threw himself around the field with trademark intensity as Rajasthan sealed a crucial playoff place.
For years Archer’s batting has often felt like an untapped bonus rather than a genuine weapon. Now Rajasthan may finally be unlocking a version of the England star capable of influencing games in every department.
Archer’s fearless batting changes the equation
Rajasthan sent Archer in at No. 7 with the innings wobbling at 119 for 5 in the 13th over. What followed was a counterattack packed with power and composure.
The first six came against Deepak Chahar as Archer launched a fierce strike over long off. Another brutal hit off Corbin Bosch followed before he pulled Shardul Thakur confidently in front of square for his third maximum.
More importantly there was clarity to his innings. Archer mixed calculated aggression with sharp running between the wickets and gave Rajasthan vital momentum heading into the death overs. His 32 from 15 balls became his highest IPL score.
Rajasthan director of cricket Kumar Sangakkara praised Archer’s composure and batting quality after the match.
“I thought today it was a pretty good pitch, a little bit slow to start off with, but how Jofra went in and batted was outstanding,” Sangakkara said after the match.
“He’s actually quite a capable bat, he’s not a No. 8 really. When he really puts his mind to it, he’s a proper bat. There’s a lot of power and a lot of sense.”

Cricket’s ultimate T20 weapon is dominating with the ball
After his batting heroics Archer returned to what he does best. Bowling with high pace and precision he ripped through Mumbai’s top order with an opening spell that shifted the entire contest.
Rohit Sharma edged behind to a sharp 145kph delivery before Archer produced an even better ball to dismiss Naman Dhir as the ball straightened dramatically to crash into middle stump.
He finished the powerplay with figures of 2 for 14 and rediscovered the aggressive pace-on style that Rajasthan had been urging him to trust.
Archer later revealed that the coaching staff had encouraged him to simplify his approach this season and trust his natural strengths.
“Coach’s instructions after the first two games: I was trying to bowl slow balls,” Archer told the broadcaster.
“And he said, ‘I don’t care what you do, I don’t want any more pace off from you’. So I’m just listening to the coach now.”
Sangakkara also admitted Archer had occasionally tried too hard during Rajasthan’s difficult mid-season run.
“I think there was a little bit of pressure on Jofra to try and get us wickets all the time,” Sangakkara said.
“All our chats were about that powerplay hold the lines hold the lengths hold your nerve and just keep hitting those areas.”
Archer’s all-round impact gives RR fresh belief
Even after his early breakthroughs Archer still had another decisive moment left. With Mumbai threatening to chase down Rajasthan’s imposing total he returned in the 16th over and dismissed Hardik Pandya with a clever pace-off delivery that forced a mistimed pull shot.
There were crucial boundary saves in the field too as Archer covered huge ground despite the draining Mumbai heat.
It was not simply a great spell or a destructive cameo. This was a performance that showcased the full range of Archer’s T20 value. Batting power elite pace tactical awareness and athleticism all combined in one night.

Why Rajasthan Royals now look more dangerous
The timing could be just as important as the performance itself. Archer has spent much of his career battling injuries and interrupted momentum but this season he is finally building rhythm through a sustained run of matches.
That should concern every remaining side in IPL 2026.
Rajasthan Royals already possess one of the most explosive batting line-ups in the competition. If Archer continues contributing with bat and ball they suddenly become a far more complete playoff threat.
At his best Archer does not just influence matches. He changes their entire shape.
