Fifteen-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has already shattered expectations in IPL 2026. Now, the Rajasthan Royals prodigy has set his sights on one of the biggest records in T20 cricket history.

The fearless left hander says he wants to become the first player ever to score a double century in the format while also surpassing Chris Gayle’s legendary unbeaten 175.

Speaking during an appearance on former England captain Kevin Pietersen’s YouTube show, Sooryavanshi revealed he is chasing milestones far greater than half centuries.

The teenage batter made it clear that personal milestones like fifties are not enough to satisfy his ambitions.

“No, not that much,” Sooryavanshi said on Kevin Pietersen’s YouTube show when asked about celebrating half centuries.

The Rajasthan Royals youngster then revealed the record he truly wants to chase.

“I want to score 200 in T20s. I want to break Gayle’s record,” he added.

The benchmark belongs to Chris Gayle whose explosive unbeaten 175 for Royal Challengers Bengaluru against Pune Warriors India in IPL 2013 remains the highest individual score in T20 cricket.

Gayle’s century in that innings came off just 30 balls, still the fastest hundred in IPL history.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s remarkable IPL 2026 season

Sooryavanshi has been one of the breakout stars of IPL 2026 with his fearless strokeplay and relentless six hitting making headlines throughout the tournament.

The Rajasthan Royals batter has scored 583 runs in 14 matches at an average of 41.64 and a stunning strike rate of 232.27.

His season includes one century and three fifties while his tally of 53 sixes is already the most by an Indian player in a single IPL campaign.

The teenager now sits just seven sixes away from Gayle’s all time IPL season record of 59 maximums.

Earlier this season, Sooryavanshi blasted a 35 ball century against Gujarat Titans to become the fastest Indian centurion in IPL history and the youngest player ever to score a T20 hundred.

Teenager continues record breaking rise in world cricket

The Bihar youngster’s rise has extended far beyond the IPL.

Sooryavanshi dominated the Under 19 World Cup earlier this year with 439 runs in seven matches at a strike rate approaching 170. He also smashed a tournament record 30 sixes, surpassing the previous mark held by South African star Dewald Brevis.

He is currently India’s leading run scorer in Under 19 ODIs with 1,412 runs in just 25 innings including four centuries.

His rapid rise first caught national attention in October 2024 when he hammered a 58 ball century for India Under 19 against Australia Under 19, the fastest hundred by an Indian in Youth Tests.

Since then, the teenager has continued to rewrite record books in domestic cricket, becoming the youngest centurion in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and one of the youngest players to score a List A century in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

At just 15, Sooryavanshi is already dreaming beyond records. And if his stunning rise is anything to go by, T20 cricket may soon witness history.
