  • The Australian state squads have been announced for the 2026-27 season.
  • Meg Lanning has given up her state contract, opting to take the freelance route instead.
  • Jake Weatherald returns to South Australia after a three-year stint with Tasmania.

With the 2025-26 summer behind us, the Australian state sides have handed out contracts and confirmed their squads for 2026-27. In this article, you can find the finalised Australian state squads for the 2026-27 campaign.

There are quite a few big-name changes ahead of the next season, including the likes of Glenn Maxwell and Meg Lanning opting out of contracts.

Key Changes in the Australian state squads

Former Australia women’s captain Meg Lanning has given up her contract with Victoria, choosing instead to take the freelance route. Tayla Vlaeminck, however, returned to Victoria’s state list after losing her Cricket Australia contract.

Men’s team all-rounders Matt Short and Glenn Maxwell too have opted out of their contracts. Both Short and Maxwell have made themselves available for One-Day cricket when not overseas. Short is said to be available for the Sheffield Shield too.

South Australia, meanwhile, have managed to lure Jake Weatherald back after the opener spent three years at Tasmania. They have also added keeper Matthew Gilkes to their roster with Alex Carey set to miss most of the summer with Test duty. Their women’s sides maintain an unchanged squad in spite of finishing fourth in the WNCL last season.

For Tasmania, Ben McDermott and Nikhil Chaudhary come in on a full-time basis after playing for the state as uncontracted players last time around. Their women’s side have added Surrey all-rounder Alice Davidson-Richards as an overseas player.

New South Wales and Queensland have lost Alyssa Healy and Usman Khawaja, respectively, to retirement, of course.
