  • Several counties could make history this summer at Finals Day

The 2026 Vitality Blast begins this Friday with counties across England once again chasing a place at Finals Day and a shot at domestic T20 glory.

Since the competition launched in 2003 the Blast has delivered unforgettable rivalries, explosive batting displays and dramatic knockout finishes. Yet as another season begins one question continues to dominate the history books: which county has truly mastered England’s premier T20 competition?

Right now there is no outright leader. Three counties sit level on top of the all-time standings with the most T20 Blast titles.

Somerset joined the all-time greats in 2025

Titles won: 2005, 2023, 2025

Somerset finally completed their rise from perennial runners-up to genuine T20 powerhouse when they lifted their third Blast title in 2025.

For years the Taunton side carried the frustration of four final defeats but their breakthrough success in 2023 changed the narrative around the club. Another triumph followed in 2025 as Somerset moved level with the competition’s most decorated sides.

Built around a homegrown core including Lewis Gregory, Tom Banton and Will Smeed, Somerset have become synonymous with fearless attacking cricket.

Their recent dominance means they now enter the 2026 season with a chance to become the outright leaders in Blast history.

Hampshire turned Finals Day into a habit

Titles won: 2010, 2012, 2022

If consistency is the mark of greatness then Hampshire have arguably set the standard in T20 cricket.

The Hawks have won the competition three times in 2010, 2012 and 2022 while regularly making deep runs into the latter stages of the tournament.

Led for years by James Vince, Hampshire developed a reputation for calmness under pressure and smart recruitment. Their remarkable tally of 10 Finals Day appearances underlines just how dominant they have been across different eras of the Blast.

With another balanced squad heading into 2026 they remain serious contenders to move clear at the top.

Leicestershire still hold a unique place in Blast history

Titles won: 2004, 2006, 2011

Before Somerset and Hampshire emerged as modern white-ball heavyweights there was Leicestershire.

The Foxes dominated the early years of the competition, winning titles in 2004, 2006 and 2011.

What makes their achievement even more impressive is their flawless record in finals. Leicestershire won all three appearances during the Blast’s formative years and helped establish the competition’s popularity in English cricket.

Although silverware has been harder to come by in recent seasons, their place among the counties with the most T20 Blast titles remains secure.

Which counties could close the gap this season?

The chasing pack heading into 2026 is still packed with dangerous contenders.

Nottinghamshire, Northamptonshire and Kent each sit on two titles and could join the leading trio with another successful campaign.

Nottinghamshire’s golden era featured stars such as Alex Hales and Ben Duckett while Northamptonshire built their reputation on knockout resilience and team spirit.

Kent meanwhile continue to thrive as one of the Blast’s great unpredictable sides, often peaking when least expected.

Elsewhere Gloucestershire will begin the campaign as defending champions after winning their maiden title in 2024.

Packed grounds, overseas stars and the unique energy of Finals Day continue to make the tournament a centrepiece of the English summer.

Now the 2026 edition arrives with added significance. Somerset, Hampshire and Leicestershire are all chasing the chance to become the outright most successful side in the competition’s history.
