  • Shubman Gill shines with brilliant fielding against CSK.
  • GT defeat CSK comfortably by 89 runs.
  • Gill scores explosive 64 off just 37 balls.

Shubman Gill had to lead by example after harshly criticizing the Gujarat Titans’ fielding and even mocking them following their performance against KKR.

During the game against Chennai Super Kings, he fulfilled his obligation to demonstrate to his team how it was done on the pitch. Gill had two bits of fielding wizardry on the field. The first occurred in the seventh over when he made an incredible throw to dismiss Kartik Sharma, who appeared to pose a threat to the Ahmedabad home squad.

The attacking Shivam Dube was then driven back to the pavilion by Gill’s diving effort, which was a candidate for catch of the season. GT won the game by 89 runs in the end. Gill expected the trend to continue in the playoffs after being happy to see his team become more watchful on the field.

“Catching was much better. Hopefully we continue to do so,” said Gill at the post-match presentation.

Shubman Gill explains emotional celebration after GT’s dominant win

On that particular night, CSK received more applause than the host team. In an emotional moment for the GT captain, Gill chose to mute a portion of the crowd after catching Dube.

Gill responded, “In a game like this, the emotion was always bound to be high,” when asked about the celebration.

“When you are playing such a high emotion game, that kind of thing can happen,” said Gill.

As the home team scored 229 runs in the first innings, Gill was one of GT’s batting heroes, hitting 64 off 37 balls. With 616 runs from 13 games, the Gujarat captain was pleased with his batting efforts thus far.

GT await playoff fate after CSK win

It was therefore not surprising that he reacted angrily when he got out, which he rationalized by considering what he could have done differently.

“Very happy with how am I am batting. When you get out, you always think of what you could have done differently, but overall, I am happy with the way I am going,” said Gill.

In order to determine whether they will play in Qualifier 1 or the Eliminator when the playoffs start, GT will now wait to learn the outcome of the RCB vs SRH match.
