- Marsh was dismissed for 90 and 96 in his last two IPL innings.
- The Australian became the first batter in the IPL, and fourth in T20 cricket, to be dismissed in the 90s in consecutive games.
- We look at all four batters to have done so.
On Tuesday, Mitchell Marsh was dismissed for 96 against Rajasthan Royals, agonisingly short of a hundred. Thus, Marsh became the first batter to be dismissed in the 90s in consecutive IPL innings.
It’s not everyday that a batter gets out in the 90s in T20 cricket, let alone doing so in consecutive games.
4 batters dismissed in the nineties in consecutive matches in T20 cricket
With his dismissal against RR, Marsh became the fourth player to get out in the nineties in back-to-back games. In this article, we look at all four of them.
Mitchell Marsh (2026)
First, Australian opener Mitchell Marsh hit a stroke-filled 38-ball 90 on May 15 to help LSG beat CSK by seven wickets. However, he was dismissed when a Nicholas Pooran straight drive took a bit of Mukesh Choudhary’s finger and struck the stumps. A light deflection of the CSK bowler’s little finger left Marsh stranded well short of the crease.
Marsh then scored 96 against RR on Tuesday, helping his team to 220 in their 20 overs. Marsh, however, was run out in the final over trying to run a second late in the innings. In the process, he became the only player to be run out in the 90s in two consecutive T20 matches.
Karanbir Singh (2025)
On August 23, 2025, Austria’s Karanbir Singh became the first man to be dismissed in the 90s in two T20s on the same day. With Belgium touring Austria, Karanbir scored 90 in the first T20I, before the visitors’ Rafiulah Alokozai had him caught behind. Austria would, however, win the game by six wickets.
Batting first in the second match of the series later in the day, Singh scored 91 off just 44 balls to lead Austria to 211-5 in a rain-curtailed match. They would eventually win the game by 38 runs.
D’Arcy Short (2018)
On New Year’s Day 2018, D’Arcy Short got his year off to a stellar start. He scored 97 off 63 in the Big Bash League before Shane Watson dismissed him. Eventually, the Hobart Hurricanes beat the Sydney Thunder by nine runs after Short’s innings helped them post 189-3.
Three days later, Short scored 96 before Billy Stanlake dismissed him. This time Hobart scored 183-5 in their 20 overs, beating the Adelaide Strikers by seven runs. Short would be named Player of the Match for both these efforts.
Chris Gayle (2015)
Chasing 232 in the second T20I of West Indies’ tour of South Africa on January 11, 2015, Chris Gayle’s 41-ball 90 helped the Men in Maroon set the then record for the highest chase in T20 history. The win also saw the Windies take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Gayle would miss the final T20I of the series, returning to T20s only in the IPL exactly three months later. Playing for RCB against his former side KKR, Gayle’s 96 helped his team see out a 178-run chase with his teammates falling like nine pins. Like Short, Gayle too was named Player of the Match for both his efforts.
