- Quinton de Kock ruled out with left wrist tendon injury.
- Raj Angad Bawa suffers ligament tear in right thumb.
- MI already eliminated from IPL 2026 playoff race.
The Mumbai Indians announced on Tuesday that Quinton de Kock and Raj Angad Bawa would miss the rest of the 2026 Indian Premier League due to two injuries. The Mumbai Indians said that De Kock had a tendon injury to his left wrist before their home match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, which has kept him out of action.
The five-time winners suffer a setback in the absence of the South African wicketkeeper-batter, as they will be without an experienced top-order option for the remainder of the season. Bawa, on the other hand, is side lined after tearing a ligament in his right thumb during Mumbai’s last game against Punjab Kings. The injury to the youthful all-rounder further erodes the depth of the team, especially in the all-around area.
The Mumbai Indians stated in an official statement that both players will continue their recovery at home, with assistance and guidance from the team’s medical staff.
“Both Quinton and Raj Bawa will continue their rehab in their respective homes, with support and guidance from the Mumbai Indians medical team to help them return to play as soon as possible,” the franchise said.
Mumbai Indians eye on strong finish amid injury setbacks
Mumbai also said that replacements will be named in line with IPL regulations and wished both players a quick recovery. The injuries bring an end to Mumbai’s poor season, as the team is already out of the running for the playoffs. Now that there are just two league games left, the emphasis will be on wrapping out the season well while evaluating alternatives for the future.
On Wednesday, May 20, Mumbai will play the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens. On Sunday, May 24, they will play the Rajasthan Royals at home to end their season. De Kock’s departure removes a seasoned international presence from the batting group, while Bawa’s withdrawal removes a developing domestic option who could have gained valuable experience.

Mumbai Indians likely to test youngsters in final two games
Mumbai may now utilize the last two games to test the strength of their bench and give fringe players a chance before focusing on rebuilding for the upcoming campaign, as their chances of making the playoffs have already been dashed.
With just two games remaining, any new players may not have much of an influence on the campaign, but the news of replacements will be eagerly to watch out for.
