The IPL has evolved into a platform where uncapped Indian youngsters can make a name for themselves. Uncapped players have added flavour to the competition right from the very start.

Whether it was Swapnil Asnodkar giving Rajasthan Royals great starts in 2008 or Vaibhav Sooryavanshi tearing the house down for them as recently as last year, uncapped Indian youngsters have always been a major part of the wider IPL narrative.

This year is no different. Across teams, young players have made their presence felt with the bat, the ball or even on the field.

3 uncapped Indian youngsters to impress in IPL 2026

While the likes of Sooryavanshi and Priyansh Arya have continued to do well for themselves this year, we will only be focusing on players that made their debut in 2026 for the sake of this article.

Sakib Hussain

Although it was fellow debutant Praful Hinge who stole all the headlines in his debut against RR, SRH’s Sakib Hussain played a crucial role in that very game. Hussain dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal in his first over, before coming back on later to bowl Donovan Ferreira. That wicket ensured RR wouldn’t have even a sniff of what was, by then, a difficult target.

The 21-year-old finished with 4-24 in that game. He would then take 10 more wickets in his next outings, picking up at least one wicket in each match that he played. Hyderabad will hope that they have unearthed a talent for years to come in Hussain.

Kartik Sharma

Any wicketkeeper-batter walking into the Chennai Super Kings setup comes in with plenty of pressure already on them. Such is the legacy of one MS Dhoni. Imagine that pressure, coupled with the pressure of having been bought for ₹14.20 crore (approx. £1.1 million) in the IPL auction.

Yet, here is 19-year-old Kartik Sharma braving both those pressures, and how! Sharma has scored 276 runs so far in his IPL career, including two important half-centuries. Unbeaten scores of 54 and 41 against Mumbai and Delhi respectively ensured that CSK completed their chases without any hiccups.

His 71 off 42 balls against Lucknow Super Giants would come in a losing cause. However, his knock ensured that CSK avoided an unnecessary collapse and posted a respectable total at the very least.

Mukul Choudhary

21-year-old Mukul Choudhary would not have expected to play a major role after being picked by the Lucknow Super Giants ahead of IPL 2026. And although runs haven’t necessarily been consistent for the wicketkeeper-batter, there has been enough evidence of his abilities this IPL.

Choudhary showed maturity beyond his years during his Player of the Match performance against KKR early in the season. His unbeaten 27-ball 54 helped Lucknow chase down 182, a target that looked improbable at many points in the chase.

He put on 54 runs with Avesh Khan for the eighth wicket, to which Khan contributed just one run. Choudhary has served as a silver lining in a season to forget for the Rishabh Pant-led side.
